Walking Home for Christmas Challenge

Walking Home for Christmas is a national campaign to serve those who served us by organising a walk to raise money this Christmas.

Our Combined Cadet Force have been participating to raise money for Walking With The Wounded with the aim of walking 24 miles in December, prior to the Christmas Holidays.

Mr Sumner shares: "We asked cadets to complete 20 miles individually by 11 December (walking home from school, walking the dog etc at approx 2 miles per day). Then complete the final 4 miles collectively at Countesswells Sports Fields on 12 December. We had over 60 cadets taking part on Saturday walking the final 4 miles staggered and in year group bubbles. Kate G, Rosie W and Gemma C completed a rowing challenge of 48 km from their rowing club. Well done everyone!

"Our veterans sacrifice so much and often don't get the support they deserve when they discharge from military service - it's great that our Christmas Cadets were able to give a little bit back. We have tripled our original target of £300 with a current total of £1,278. If you would like to support this charity please visit RGC Christmas Cadets."

In 2019 WWTW provided the following support for our Armed Forces Veterans:

  • 1875 Beneficiaries Supported
  • 2627 Mental Health Therapy Sessions Delivered
  • 424 Employment Outcomes Secured
  • 200 Organisation Collaborations

Mr Sumner adds: "The Royal British Legion's long-held estimate is that somewhere (as of November 2020) between three and six percent of homeless people in Britain have an armed forces background - while this percentage is considerably down on a decade ago our CCF support for charities like WWTW will hopefully see us drive these numbers down further still."
