You are enough: Supporting mental health and wellbeing in education

In a new blog for HMC, Miss Jamieson, Junior School Principal Teacher and Class of 2001, explores the powerful message of self-worth in The Boy, The Mole, the Fox and the Horse and how this resonates with supporting children’s mental health. Drawing on the words of Charlie Mackesy, she reflects on how helping pupils discover that they are enough is what is central to their emotional wellbeing.

Miss Jamieson’s blog also features practical suggestions on how schools can support young people, offering valuable insights on creating environments where students feel safe, understood, and empowered. By integrating mental health support into daily school life, she encourages educators to provide consistent guidance, promote open dialogue, and equip pupils with the tools they need to navigate challenges with confidence. At Robert Gordon’s College, we are proud to embed mental health education throughout our curriculum all year round - not just during Children’s Mental Health Week. From resilience building strategies to one-on-one guidance, we are committed to helping every pupil grow in confidence and seek help when needed. We remain dedicated to nurturing emotional wellbeing, ensuring every pupil knows they are supported, valued, and truly enough.
