Join us for the second panel session in our Windows and Mirrors series, which aims to open a window into the diverse experiences within our community, while providing an opportunity for reflection and representation.
Thursday 28th November at 7.30 pm (refreshments from 7 pm)
The Craig Centre for Performing Arts
In this session, we will address some of the myths surrounding neurodiversity, discuss the support available across the College, and highlight hopes for ongoing initiatives within our community - and how this can be supported at home.
Mrs McEwan and Ms Menzies will be joined by a diverse panel with lived experience. We are delighted to welcome Katharine Descamps, Christine Parra, Miley Scott, Amelia Porter, Isla J and Pearl R.
Christine Parra, parent of pupil and former pupil, said: “When we work to promote diversity, we make difference a quality to be celebrated rather than something that sets you apart. Society flourishes when it draws upon the talents and perspectives of all types of minds. An estimated 1 in 5 people are neurodivergent. Neurodiversity is part of the rich tapestry of life. It is important to listen to the experience of our young people and make the changes to their environment to allow them to thrive. Where there are challenges – we can find strategies to help! If we share our experiences, hopefully we can help others in our wake."
Pearl, P7 pupil, shared: “It is important to support people who are neurodiverse because they are not alone. I am looking forward to being on this panel to support people who have dyslexia, like me. I think everyone should be encouraged to keep their head held high with pride.”
This session is for everyone - pupils, parents, carers, and staff - who want to gain a deeper understanding of the world from a neurodiverse perspective. There is no cost to attend this session for parents, pupils, staff and families in the Robert Gordon's community. Please check your family or school email for booking details.
