Throughout this week, pupils from across the College have been immersing themselves in the world of literature, celebrating World Book Day with engaging activities for all year groups.
Pupils eagerly browsed through a wide range of pre-loved and donated books from the school community, and a grand total of £732.03 was raised for Charlie House. The books that were remaining from the sale will be distributed to a number of local charities.
The Junior School was a sea of colour as pupils transformed into their beloved book characters for World Book Day. From whimsical wizards to brave adventurers, pupils dressed in an array of fantastic costumes where the colourful parade of characters sparked conversations about books and ignited imaginations.
Mrs Ficken, Junior School Librarian, shared: “The build-up to the Pre-loved Book Sale was wonderful... as the piles of donated books dropped off at the Library grew and grew, the more excited the children became. On the day, thanks to the incredible generosity of the Robert Gordon's community, we had a huge number of books on sale and almost every Junior School pupil went home with a new story!
“At the same time as the book sale was happening, our fantastic team of P6 and P7 Pupil Librarians were interviewing and filming the Junior School teachers in order to find out about their favourite stories from their childhoods. The Librarians also filmed each other! We all watched this very special film during our World Book Day Assembly, and everyone's excitement about books and favourite characters has been continuing throughout the day. World Book Day gives us such a great opportunity to share our love of books, and it inspires the pupils to try reading something new. What a great day it's been!”
In the Senior School, pupils put their literary knowledge to the test in a thrilling reading competition. Participating in the Reading Champions Quiz, the competition provided a platform for pupils to showcase their comprehension, critical thinking and passion for storytelling. Congratulations to our two teams who placed 6th out of 18 teams across Scotland.
On World Book Day, Senior pupils had the opportunity to participate in a House quiz. The pupils had a fantastic time and congratulations to Straloch who became victorious in a nail biting competition.

Mrs Bukalska, Senior School Librarian, said: “This week, we have celebrated World Book Day where Senior pupils have been decorating the library while having conversations about their favourite books and characters. I am so proud of our two Senior School teams who competed in the Reading Champions Quiz and placed 6th in what was a tough competition. It truly has been a wonderful way to celebrate books, reading and literacy!”
