The Craig Centre for Performing Arts came alive with the sound of music for the annual Young Musician of the Year 2024 final.
Our finalists Harry, Leo, Grace, Joseph, Aaron and Marquis, who range from S1-S6, performed a diverse range of music. From classical compositions to contemporary tunes they captivated their audience and the judging panel from start to finish.
This year we were delighted to welcome Kevin Kyle, Director of Aberdeen City Music School. Louise Timney, Director of Music at Dollar Academy and Andrew Bruce, Faculty Head of Performing Arts at Banchory Academy to the College to participate as our judging panel.
After a tense judges deliberation, they announced the winner of this year's competition. Congratulations to Aaron (S1) and Harry (S6) who both performed on the Piano.
Mrs Massie, Head of Creative Arts, shared: “I am immensely proud of our finalists and winners - each one of them demonstrated an outstanding level of skill and performance on their chosen instrument. Our external judges were really impressed with the talent on display and I am extremely grateful to them all for giving up their time, talents and incredible experience to make the evening a fantastic opportunity for our pupils.
“As we continue to promote creativity and inclusion across the arts, it is vital that we still celebrate our most able and talented solo performers by giving them a platform, like ‘Young Musician’ to challenge, enhance, encourage and inspire.”
Andrew Bruce, Faculty Head of Performing Arts at Banchory Academy, said: “It was such a pleasure to hear some of the top musicians from RGC play. From their helpful introductions to their final notes, we were entertained. The standard of playing was extremely high, and all six performers had the capacity to win. The varied programmes were a delight to listen to and while the adjudication was challenging, as judges we were in agreement at the end of a thoroughly enjoyable evening.”
