Sport Update

Rugby

RGC enjoyed fixtures against Merchiston Castle School on Saturday. Our teams had a very successful afternoon with many winning their matches. We displayed some exciting rugby in parts with many tries and effective tackling. The games were very physical with the boys showing resilience and attacking well.

During the week the 2nd XV won a friendly against Westhill Academy. It is great to see this local Aberdeenshire team back playing rugby again and we look forward to welcoming them to Countesswells for more matches in the future.

Boys’ Hockey

The U15 played in the 1st round of their Scottish Cup last Wednesday, welcoming Edinburgh Academy to Countesswells. Mr Stuart (coach) had set up a solid team to start the game and it was a dominant performance from start to finish. From the first whistle the boys capitalised on early mistakes and played some outstanding hockey to lead 4-0 at half time. They continued the great work in the second half to score 3 more times, with stand out performances from everyone but to name a few Louis R, Will S, Sami B and Tommaso G.The U14 team travelled away to Dundee High School on Saturday.

Girls’ Hockey

There were no girls’ hockey matches on Saturday as many pupils were taking part in the school Open Day.

Netball

It has been another successful week for RGC netball. Last Thursday saw the Senior A and B teams playing in the Aberdeen League Cup against Portlethen Academy, both winning their matches 29-18 and 33-2 respectively. There was another win for the Senior Bs in their Scottish Cup fixture against Aboyne Academy on Friday.

Scottish Schools Biathlon Competition

RGC entered the largest number of pupils (54) in this swimming and running event held on Sunday at Aberdeen Sports Village. The individual achievements of our pupils included 3 Gold, 6 Silver and 6 Bronze awards. Team achievements included 4 Gold, 2 Silver and 2 Bronze awards. This was a great turn out and well done to everyone who took part.
