Rugby: Scottish Cup

The 1st XV came up a against a strong, fast, and exciting Stewart's Melville side in their 3rd round tie on Tuesday while the U16s faced a dominant Merchiston side in their 2nd round match on Wednesday. Finlay L was named 1st XV Man of the Match. Unfortunately the teams didn’t reach their next rounds respectively, but the lessons learned will stand them in good stead for the rest of the season.

On Saturday the boys hosted teams from Fettes College and Montrose. There were some very exciting matches with several tries scored in a row from our boys. Fettes were a strong side but despite RGC not winning, there was a great deal to be positive about with the boys showing how much they want to be there. Our S1s won a great round robin competition against Montrose RFC where we had 3 teams with 47 boys playing. The future looks bright!

Girls’ Hockey

The 1st XI travelled to Musselburgh on Thursday to play in their Scottish Cup match against Loretto. The score was 2-2 with 10 minutes remaining and the momentum was swinging our way, however a last moment ricochet fell into the path of the opposition, resulting in a win to Loretto. On the whole it was a cracking game and with the girls’ great attitude, we are heading in the right direction.

On a beautiful, sunny Saturday morning at Countesswells we welcomed girls’ teams from Aberdeen Grammar School, Cults Academy and Aberlour School. With some of our senior girls away at the North District tournament, we fielded some mixed teams and the girls worked together brilliantly. Player of the 2nd XI match went to Annie R for her composure on the ball at centre midfield and her excellent distribution skills.Emelia A scored a hatrick in her first game for the S3A team and in the same game Zoe E delivered a man of the match performance with 4 goals. All teams showed great determination and competitive spirit and it was great to see some of our new S1 girls making their debut for RGC.

Boys’ Hockey

The 1st XI played their first round Scottish Cup tie at home against George Watson’s College on Thursday. The boys defended well and kept the game close for most of the second half however Watson’s superiority started to show and they stretched ahead.

On Saturday the 1st XI and U15s travelled to Glasgow Academy where there were wins for both teams. After a much improved second half performance from the 1st XI they got the game back level and their superiority came to the fore with some well worked goals. Five goals from Louis R highlighted the dominance of our U15 side against a 2nd XI Glasgow side.

Netball: Scottish Cup

The Senior B played their 1st round match away at Portlethen Academy on Wednesday, narrowly losing 33-28 . Man of the match defender Frayla C (S5) worked tirelessly to contain Portlethen’s dominant GA however our luck turned as captain Kirsty S went down with an injury 8 minutes to go which unsettled us losing three crucial Centre passes.

The new Senior A squad enjoyed their first match of the season winning 55-9 against Albyn School. All of our girls showed strength, looked athletic and were up for the challenge.

The S3 netball team won a really tough but exciting mid-week match 18-12 at home against Gordonstoun. The visitors were were one ahead after the 2nd quarter but then we ran away with it!

There was an excellent standard of netball on display from all teams during the week and we are very proud of these girls!

Golf: Annual St Leonard’s Tournament

On a day when it was too windy for the kite surfers on the west sands of St Andrews, the hardy RGC golfers ventured onto the links. Our pupils performed credibly with Michael B returning a very good score of nett 69. There was no prize for the team on this occasion but well done to all.
