Netball

It has been a very busy and also successful week for our netball teams in the final fixtures of the first round of the Scottish Cup. There were wins for the Senior A, Senior C and S1s with some teams going through undefeated to the next round. The girls fought hard to keep possession of the ball in their matches as well as applying lots of pressure on their opposing players.  

Skiing

Teams from both the Junior and Senior School travelled to Braehead, Glasgow this week for the final of the SSSA Scottish Schools Autumn Dual Slalom Series. Our pupils skied really well in a high quality field, improving in speed with each race. The course conditions were quite tricky and they all did really well to cope. One of our senior ski teams qualified for the semi-finals, losing narrowly to Dollar Academy then rebounding straight back to the top to beat Kingussie for the bronze medal. The medalists were Emilia A, Grant M, Finlay C and Tiaan T. We are looking forward to the next event which is the Ski and Border Cross, also at Braehead at the end of November.

Football

The S1 team won the last of their group fixtures against Portlethen Academy on Wednesday. They have now qualified for Division One and will be competing against the top Aberdeen schools from now until Easter time.

In other football news, Dylan F (S6) represented RGC in the Aberdeen Senior Select Squad for his second game this week. Just before the October break, Piper K (S5) and Morven W (S2) were both selected to represent the Scottish Independent Schools U16 girls side against England in December.

Rugby

The 1st XV enjoyed success away to Hutcheson’s Grammar School midweek, securing a win in the next round of the Scottish Shield competition. On Saturday the 2nd XV played a hard fought game against Stirling County at a blustery Countesswells whilst all other teams travelled south to a play in very wet conditions at Stirling County and Bell Baxter High School. The boys moved the ball well and had plenty of pace and power out wide whilst there were good defensive performances and excellent tackling along with supportive play throughout. There is more work to be done in attack but coaches were pleased with the results given the difficult conditions.

Girls Hockey

There was no extensive travel required for our girls on Saturday as we played matches against our close neighbours Albyn School and St Margaret’s. Our fast flowing hockey got us into numerous goal scoring opportunities with many teams seeing improved performances in their 2nd half. The girls continued to heap more pressure on the opposition, working well as a team and creating space. There were some excellent saves by the goalkeepers from RGC as well as the visitors.

Boys Hockey

There was just one fixture on Saturday for the boys as the U15 side hosted Dundee High School at Countesswells.
