Rugby

The S2 and S1B teams travelled to Monifieth High School on Friday to play their matches. There were wins for both teams and Mr Anderson was pleased with the S1 performance saying, “We passed out wide and found the space really well. A really enjoyable game.” Unfortunately the fixtures against Gordonstoun for U16 XV and S3 teams fell victim to the freezing temperatures last Tuesday.

 

Girls Hockey 

On Saturday the girls 1st XI took part in the North District Indoor Tournament at Cults Academy. They secured comfortable wins against Cults Academy and St Margaret’s School with all 10 players making valuable contributions and Ellie L (S5) scoring a hat-trick.

 

Boys Hockey

The boys first team travelled to Perth on Friday for the first ever George Watson Indoor Invitational Hockey Tournament. The boys played four high standard indoor matches against 4 very established Indoor Hockey Schools: George Watson’s College, Strathallan School, Hutcheson’s Grammar and The Edinburgh Academy. This was the first experience of Indoor at this level for the majority of our players and while we could not register a win in the group stages we were hugely competitive throughout losing games by only a single goal and finishing the event with a well deserved 1-1 draw with The Edinburgh Academy. The boys performances improved throughout the day and it was a hugely positive experience for such a young team.

 

Netball

On Monday some of our S1 and S2 players made up 3 teams to compete in a friendly round robin tournament with Banchory Academy. The girls really enjoyed the match playing experience. The calendar of ASSNA tournaments continued on Wednesday where it was the turn of the S3s in the Junior event. Miss Stephen was delighted with their performance saying, “I was so proud of the girls today and it is the best I have ever seen them play. They really improved their movement and timing to create space & keep possession.” On Friday the Senior 1st VII team made the long journey south to Peebles High School for their Gold section Scottish Cup match. It was a very close and exciting match and despite coming back from several points down to then take the lead, it was Peebles who finished as winners 38-33. Mrs Axten was full of praise for the team saying, “After finishing the second quarter 20-11 down it shows the girls can dig deep when the pressure is on to reduce the gap however great credit to our competition their performance was very, very strong. There is much to take away and build on for our next target in the upcoming Scottish Independent Schools Tournament. The girls’ spirits are not too deflated; they are all great girls that have become good friends and that is something worth cherishing regardless of any match outcome.”

 

Tennis

The RGC boys and girls Senior Tennis teams made an impressive start to their Scottish Cup competition on Tuesday with wins in all their matches against Elgin High School.
