The dream became a reality for our 1st XV Rugby team as they were piped onto the Murrayfield HIVE pitch to compete in the U18 Schools Plate Final against Glenalmond in Edinburgh.
Supported by some of their peers, families and former pupils, the 70 minute game commenced with Robert Gordon’s taking an early 3-0 lead at the five minute mark. After putting their all into the game, the team secured a fantastic victory, emerging as champions of the competition.
Jamie, Ist XV Captain, shared: “I am absolutely buzzing after that. It was an unreal match, but credit to Glenalmond - they were really strong. We went ahead early, and they really clawed their way back, but then we just managed to find those extra few tries in the end. I thought it was a great game to play in, and credit to the school, our coaches, and the boys. We’ve all worked really hard and they’ve shown us an unreal amount of support.”
Mr McKay, Head of Rugby, shared: “The RGC 1st XV have had an enjoyable season so far, with ever improving performances week on week. The chance to take the field at the HIVE is the well deserved result of their hard work. It’s been some time since an RGC team has been to Edinburgh for Finals Day, and this remarkable group of players has worked tirelessly since our pre-season back in July to reach this point. The match itself was a hard fought, physically demanding contest, made even more memorable by the incredible support from both the Glenalmond and Robert Gordon’s College fans in the stands. We are deeply grateful to everyone - pupils, families, staff, former pupils, and committee members - who travelled to cheer us on. This is truly a historic moment for Rugby at Robert Gordon’s.”
