Advanced Higher Geography pupils were in Lochranza for the annual fieldwork trip to Arran, supporting the course aim of developing independent geographical research skills, including data collection and analysis in a real-world setting.
Day one saw them exploring the coast by the castle which gives the pupils the chance to apply classroom learning to investigate coastal processes - a little blustery at times, but they avoided the rain. The next day brought sunshine, with pupils busy collecting data along two rivers to compare drainage basins. The only water today was in the river - not falling from the sky!
Advanced Higher Geography is just one of 25 Advanced Highers pupils can choose from in S6, giving them the chance to dig deeper into the subjects they enjoy most. The Class of 2025 achieved an impressive 94% A-B pass rate, and with free choice of subjects and timetables built around individual interests, every pupil can shape a pathway that works for them.
Destinations for the Class of 2025 include Geography, Geology, and Environmental Science degrees at Aberdeen, Dundee, Edinburgh, Glasgow, and St Andrews. Others are going on to study Law, Medicine, Economics, Computing, Business, and Journalism. Former pupils who have just graduated are about to begin Master’s degrees in Petroleum Geology and Quantitative Climate and Environmental Science at Cambridge University.
