Primary 5 pupils recently enjoyed an eventful residential trip to Alltnacriche, where they embraced new challenges, developed valuable life skills and created lasting memories with their classmates. A much-loved part of the Junior School experience for more than 30 years, the annual three-day residential once again proved to be a highlight for both pupils and staff. With friendship at the heart of the experience, the trip encouraged pupils to work together, support one another and build strong connections throughout their time away. The stunning scenery at Alltnacriche provided the perfect setting for a week of outdoor adventure, teamwork and fun.

Throughout the trip, pupils took part in a wide range of activities designed to build confidence, encourage teamwork and develop problem-solving skills. Visiting Alltnacriche allowed the children to try a variety of new experiences, including archery and bushcraft, which they approached with enthusiasm and determination.

There was plenty of excitement, with adrenaline-filled activities such as ziplining and the ropes course proving particularly popular. Pupils also took part in team-building activities, developing their communication and collaboration skills while showcasing their creativity.

During downtime, pupils made the most of Alltnacriche’s extensive grounds and facilities. Whether paddling in the burn, playing football or enjoying the sports hall, there were plenty of opportunities for fun, friendship and relaxation.

For many pupils, this residential was their first experience of staying away from home with their classmates. The trip provided an important opportunity to develop confidence and independence. Pupils took responsibility for their belongings, prepared their own packed lunches and helped with dining hall duties, all of which encouraged a growing sense of responsibility and accountability.

The residential also helped to strengthen friendships across the year group. Sharing experiences, overcoming challenges together and spending time outdoors enabled pupils to build new connections and create memories that will stay with them for years to come.

Adding to the excitement, pupils visited the Highland Wildlife Park at Kingussie on their journey home. 

During the visit, they took part in an educational session on endangered animals and toured the reserve, learning more about conservation and protecting wildlife.

Mrs Tulloch, Head of Junior School, shared: “Our P5 residential at Alltnacriche is an important milestone for pupils as it is their first experience of staying away from home with their classmates. Throughout the trip, the boys and girls embraced new challenges, developed their independence and built confidence in a supportive environment. The experience provides a strong foundation for the longer residential adventures that await them in P6 and P7, while creating lasting memories and strengthening friendships along the way.”

This year’s Primary 5 Alltnacriche residential was a fantastic experience that combined adventure, learning and personal development. Pupils returned home with new skills, increased confidence and plenty of stories to share, marking a memorable milestone in their Junior School journey.
