Recently, some of our sporting alumni have had great success in their respective sports. 

 

Andrew Mclean

Andrew Mclean, Class of '22, was selected to participate in a multi-games experience with Commonwealth Games Scotland in Birmingham, as part of the 2022 Achieve programme.

Mr Harper, Head of Sport commented with: “Andrew has always been a pupil and player who’s led by example. Alongside his exceptional technical ability, he has a great eye for detail, leaving nothing to chance and an attitude which make him one of the best prepared players we’ve seen, and a role model for so many. It’s good to see that he has been given the opportunity to experience this summer’s Commonwealth Games. It’s a fantastic reward for all the hard work he’s put in over the years and we hope this can help him go on to achieve his ambitions in rugby.”

Emma Love

Congratulations to Emma Love, Class of '17, who was selected to represent the Team Scotland Netball Squad at the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games.

Fighting her way back from an ACL injury which ruled her out of her debut Sirens in 2020, Emma has worked hard on her rehab to get herself ready for the call up. Emma shared: "I’m absolutely over the moon to have been selected for the Commonwealth Games. This is always something I’ve aspired to since a young age, so to actually be going feels amazing. It’s been such a tough journey to come back from injury, so it really feels like all my hard work has paid off.”

Mrs Hardie, Head of PE commented: "We are so immensely proud of Emma’s call up for the Commonwealth Games due to injury in the Scottish Thistles squad. Emma is a brilliant role model for all of our Robert Gordon’s netballers. She has shown real resilience and worked relentlessly to come back from her own injury all while studying and graduating in Law in 2021. She was always a determined player at RGC, driven by her love for the game and I am so glad that her hard work has paid off.” 

We look forward to seeing what Emma does with Team Scotland in the future.

 

Matt Cross

Well done to Matt Cross, Class of '10 who has been promoted to Vice Captain of the Scotland Cricket Team.

Mr Harper added: “Our cricket this year has gone from strength to strength after a tough few years hampered by COVID. Having former pupils such as Matt competing at the highest level, showing our boys and girls what is possible is just brilliant. Being given the honour to lead your country alongside a new captain is a just reward for the consistency of performance that Matt has produced over a long period of time. Everyone at RGC wishes Matt well in his new role and there are plenty of budding cricketers who will be following  him closely.”

 

Francesca Ogilvie

We extend further congratulations to Francesca Ogilvie, Class of ‘19 who has been promoted to Vice Captain of the Aberdeen Football Club Ladies team for the 2022/23 season. Francesca has represented Scotland and is also showing entrepreneurial spirit having started her own football coaching business.

Mr Harper shared: “Francesca is a true role model to any sports person out there who wants to push the boundaries of their sport. She speaks so passionately about football, especially women’s football and the opportunities it’s given her, and it’s clear she is well respected among her peers at Aberdeen FC. Being one of a few players chosen to play professionally and being selected as vice captain for next season is an example of this.”
