Archie (S6) has been awarded an academic Scholarship at Marist College, New York where he will study Psychology and Criminal Justice.  He has also secured a place in the roster of the Men's Swimming and Diving Team at Marist.

Hoping to travel to the USA in August, he is looking forward to challenging his sporting success. Archie said: “I found Psychology at RGC really interesting and I like watching crime related TV documentaries. I'm particularly interested in the criminology side of psychology and look forward to learning more about the USA context. The swim program has a long history of success. It is a Division 1 College, so it's going to be tough in the pool and in the classroom. 

“My brother is currently studying there and I have really enjoyed spending time in the area, the campus and the college community when I have visited. I’m really excited to be attending Marist in the Autumn and would like to thank Mr Hardie and Mrs Hill who have helped me tremendously.”

Archie has always had a keen interest in sport throughout his Junior and Senior School years. Mrs Hill, Head of Swimming shared: “We are delighted to hear Archie's news. It is a fantastic opportunity for him to pursue his passion for swimming at such a prestigious university.  Archie has been a wonderful role model during his time at Robert Gordon's College and latterly as Captain of our Swim Team. We are proud to have been part of his journey and wish him the best of luck in his new adventure.” 

Head of Guidance, Mr Hardie highlighted: “Archie is joining his brother Murray who began at Marist College in 2017. It will be nice to see the boys progress their university and swimming careers together, albeit at different stages. Archie is also a keen historian - taking the subject to Advanced Higher level - as well as a student of Psychology and Philosophy in S6. Balancing school studies, prefect duties and competitive swimming is no mean feat and Archie has been successful due to his hard work, dedication and positive approach. He sets an excellent example to our younger pupils.”

About to commence his fourth year of a Computing Science major at Marist, Murray spoke highly of the College, “I found a second home and an extended family at Marist. It is an excellent place to spend four years living and learning. I can’t wait for Archie to experience all that Marist, and New York, have to offer.”

Mr Harper, Head of Sport added: “I think it is excellent to see pupils take the decision to combine their academic study with a sporting ambition that could go onto further representation and Archie is fully deserving of the opportunity that he has been given to do this at Marist. We all know the resources that are put into American college sport and this will be a great platform for Archie to push himself against some of the best around. He has been an outstanding role model for our pupils at RGC, not only in his time as Swimming Captain but also in the many years he has devoted his time to swimming within the College. We wish him all the best, and I look forward to following his progress along with his brother Murray.”

Our annual Junior School and Senior School Swimming Gala’s are always a highlight of the sporting calendar. Pupils from P4 - S6 have the opportunity to race and compete as individuals, and represent their house in the hope of being crowned a year group champion.
