A group of 22 pupils from S3-S6 travelled to Boston in October to learn from leading institutes working on science and technology research, product development and to widen pupil ideas for the vast range of career opportunities open to them.

The pupils had the opportunity to visit MIT to experience life as a student; accessing postgraduate study labs and attending lectures in the School of Engineering, participate in an evolution workshop at Harvard University, tour a robotics test facility and visit the Museum of Science. A particular highlight was a visit to Corindus Vascular Robotics, a surgical robotics company who specialise in cutting edge surgical robotic technology.

Mrs MacLean, Acting Head of Technology who was leading the trip said: "Whilst in Boston the pupils had the opportunity to visit world class universities and lead-edge companies. They also had time to learn about the city and its pivotal role in American history visiting the sights and sounds of Boston and Salem alike. We were fortunate to meet former pupils living in Boston who could speak to the pupils first-hand about their experiences from school to studying and working in Boston and are especially grateful to Dr David Dalgarno (Class of '76) and his wife, Brenda, for opening uptheir home for Sunday brunch with the pupils."
