Pupils in the Combined Cadet Force have had an incredibly busy February attending a number of training sessions and events.

At the beginning of February, pupils were joined by cadets from Albyn School for a leadership course. Focusing on the Blue and Bronze syllabus’, and through a blend of classroom sessions and hands-on exercises, cadets explored various leadership theories and styles. On the final day of the three-day course, cadets underwent assessment, applying theoretical knowledge by leading teams through practical scenarios devised by the directing staff. Feedback was overwhelmingly positive, with participants expressing satisfaction not only with their training progress but also with their personal development during the course.

Two of our senior cadets had the opportunity to participate in a Wing Camp at RAF Lossiemouth.  James G (S4) and Oliver D (S5) spent the weekend learning how to plan, navigate and then fly circuits based on local routes. They also had to learn to master radio communication protocols with aircraft control and after an intense assessment, both cadets were awarded their Bronze Wings - a first for Robert Gordon’s College.

Despite a challenging start to the year with no gliding, our cadets soared to new heights at RAF Kirknewton near Edinburgh. After completing ground school training and emergency procedures, cadets assisted in the launching and flying of the Viking gliders, some for the first time. However, it wasn’t just the pupils who were up in the skies as FLt Lt Rhodes managed to sneak in a flight before the cloud suspended operations.

In the month of Valentines, pupils sat their essential first aid course learning CPR and how to spot a heart attack. Through hands-on scenarios and evaluations led by experienced staff, we are thrilled to announce that a total of 19 first aid badges were earned by our cadets.

Meanwhile, one of our Senior Pipe Band pupils has been selected to perform at The Gordon Highlanders Museum. Pipe Sgt James F will perform alongside Callum Beaumont, the current Glenfiddich Solo Piping Champion. Tickets for the event can be purchased here.
