Throughout the month of June, CCF and Pipe Band pupils have had a busy time participating in a variety of activities and events.
D-Day 80th Anniversary
Pupils from across the College mustered to pay their respects on the 80th anniversary of D-Day in Normandy. Led by Mr Sumner and The Reverend L Kinsey, Primary 7 and Senior School CCF pupils read D-Day readings and poems. The service concluded with a Lament and Reville by Primary 6 pupils Andrew and Larry.
Robert Burns World Federation National Final
Junior School pupils Andrew and Larry showcase their talents at the Robert Burns World Federation National Final. Both boys delivered outstanding performances, impressing the judges.
Congratulations to Andrew for winning the gold medal and Larry who won the silver. Additionally, both pupils also won the best overall bagpiping group performance for Grampian.
Andrew then competed for the title of Junior Burnsian of the year amidst very tough competition where he was awarded the title by a panel of judges.
Former pupil welcomes pupils to RAF Lossiemouth
Red Arrows team member Red 7, Sqn Ldr Tom Hansford, Class of ‘05, welcomed some of our cadets to RAF Lossiemouth
The pupils had the opportunity to hear from Sqn Ldr Hansford on the work of the Red Arrows before then sitting in a team debrief of the Red Arrows Portsoy Display they had the previous day. They then toured the Hawk aircraft at close quarters and watched as the team departed for RAF Waddington.
Wg Commander Montgomery commented: “This is Tom's second season with the team. We are extremely grateful to him and to the other Red Arrows team members for their enthusiastic welcome and hospitality and for providing this unique and unforgettable experience.”
James F awarded Lord Lieutenant’s Cadet
The RGC CCF were delighted to welcome the Lord Provost of Aberdeen, Councillor David Cameron, to the College to present Cpl James F with his Lord Lieutenant’s Cadets Citation and Certificate.
Mr Sumner, Contingent Commander, shared: "James represents the very best of what our young cadets can achieve through the Combined Cadet Force and its core values, standards and ethos."
Pipers open Maggie's Culture Crawl
On Friday 21st June some of our Pipe Band pupils had the opportunity to open and lead the annual Maggie's Aberdeen Culture Crawl 2024. As always, they were an incredible addition to the event, filling the air with their powerful and uplifting music.
