Our Archives team has been diligently working behind the scenes, converting precious VHS recordings into MP4 files. This meticulous process not only preserves our historical media but occasionally brings to light hidden treasures.
One such discovery is an Advanced Higher Art project by Ollie Sproul-Cran in 2002. Ollie’s project is an animated rendition of Robert Burns’ classic poem ‘Tam o’ Shanter’. What makes this project even more special is that Ollie’s brother Robbie is the narrator of the film.
The VHS recording captures the entire creative journey of this project, from the initial stages of brainstorming and material preparation to the final animated film.
Mr Cumming, College Archivist, shared: “We are grateful to Ollie for giving us permission to share his film online. This is just one example of the huge array of items which are in our collection. We have manuscripts dating back as far as the early 17th century, the complete set of Minutes of the meetings of the Board of Governors, the Gordonian Magazine from its first publication in 1908, Rolls of Honour for those who died in The Great War and in World War II, paintings, furniture, school uniforms, report cards, architectural plans dating back to 1731, audio recordings and, of course, photos in hard copy and digital formats.”
