On Friday afternoon, pupils submitted the final pieces of work for the week before heading to the kitchen to take part in the first “Baking with…” virtual bake along.
Leading the first session of 2021 was Miss Boyne with her take on Millies Cookies.
Miss Boyne said: “I think it's really nice for pupils to see staff outside of the classroom and we had a lovely afternoon baking online. It was so nice to see a mix of pupils from S1 all the way to S6 and see all their amazing cookies.
“Thankfully there were no major disasters and feedback would suggest that the cookies were definitely a hit.”
Kiyah (S2) enjoyed the session and detailed: “I’m pretty sure these are the best cookies I’ve ever made! Thank you for putting up the recipe, I’ll be sure to make these again!”
Jessica (S1) agreed: “I loved the cookies. They were very tasty and the chocolate melted out of them! It was such a lovely end to the week.”
The next bake along will be on Tuesday afternoon with Mrs Peachy, who bakes a lockdown classic - banana and chocolate chip loaf. Any pupils who are interested in taking part can get the classroom code from the daily bulletin.
Recipe: Miss Boyne’s Cookies
- 225g self-raising flour
- 200g chocolate chips
- 125g butter, softened
- 125g caster sugar
- 100g light brown soft sugar
- 1 egg, lightly beaten
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- ½ tsp salt
- Preheat the oven to 180°C / gas mark 4.
- Cream butter and sugars, once creamed, combine in the egg and vanilla.
- Sift in the flour and salt, then add the chocolate chips.
- For a homemade look, roll the dough into walnut size balls, or roll into a long, thick sausage shape and slice to make neater looking cookies.
- Place on ungreased baking paper. If you want to have the real Millies experience then bake for just 7 minutes, till the cookies are just setting - the cookies will be really doughy and delicious. Otherwise cook for 10 minutes until just golden round the edges.
- Take out of the oven and leave to harden for a minute before transferring to a wire cooling rack.
- These are great eaten warm and also store well (if they don't all get eaten straight away!).
