Our Primary 5-7 finalists recently competed in the annual Junior School Declamations 2023 on Friday 6th October 2023.
After an introduction from Mrs MacLeod, Deputy Head of Junior School, our finalists excitedly and energetically performed memorised poems to their families and peers.
It was a nervous wait for our pupils as our judges Mrs Webb, Head of Junior School and Mrs Cowie, Deputy Head, Senior School deliberated. The audience were treated to a series of fantastic musical performances from some of our Primary 7 pupils.
Mrs Cowie, Deputy Head, Senior School, shared: “I was so honoured to be invited to judge the Declamations final: it is such a lovely event and it’s great to see such a wonderful celebration of poetry! I never fail to be amazed by how talented our young people are and this year’s Declamations finalists were no exception. They were absolutely outstanding and they should all be very proud of themselves for delivering such incredible performances.”

Declamations is an event that has been running at RGC for over 30 years. Its purpose is to encourage children to develop and share an appreciation of poetry. Each pupil in P5-7 has learnt a poem and performed it to their class. The 18 finalists were selected by their teachers to take part in the Declamations competition. Our pupils have heard lots of poems - some humorous, some sad, some challenging and some very thought provoking all building up their love of poetry.
