The Robert Gordon’s College community celebrates this year's academic success of our Senior School pupils. 

In S5, the pass rate for Highers is 96.8% and across the year group 71.3% are A passes. The National 5 A-C pass rate in S4 is 97% with the A pass rate in this year group at 76.2%. In S6, the pass rate is 89.9% for Advanced Higher. 

Mrs Clare Smith, Head of Robert Gordon’s College Senior School shared: “We are delighted to be celebrating excellent results for senior pupils today and my warmest congratulations go to each of them. Beyond the impressive headline statistics, every result represents months of hard work, commitment and individual endeavour. 

“The return of SQA examinations this year meant that young people and their teachers needed to be adaptable and resilient; there is no doubt that the pupils and teachers of Robert Gordon’s stepped up to that challenge and I would like to thank the teaching staff and families of exam candidates for their support throughout the year. 

“It is exciting to see the diverse range of destinations of our S6 leavers’, demonstrating that exam results are just one ingredient in deciding next steps and future pathways. Robert Gordon’s pupils continue to embrace a wide range of opportunities available to them including higher and further education, work experience placements, travel, leadership opportunities and participation in sports at the highest levels, all of which enhance their academic studies.”  

Gaining four Advanced Highers at A grade in Biology, Chemistry, Mathematics and Physics, Ellie (S6) is moving to Glasgow to study Medicine. She shared: "Although it has been challenging managing all the subjects together, the teachers helped me so much and I could not have done this without them. A special thank you to Dr Kennedy who helped me and was always pushing me to be curious and ask questions. I also enjoyed work experience with a GP surgery and zoom call with a care home with Kissing it Better to help support my personal statement to study Medicine.”

An accomplished musician, Kory (S5) was delighted to receive his six grade A Higher results in Biology, Chemistry, Computing Science, English, Mathematics, and Physics. He said: “My higher results will allow me to choose a career path in either chemistry or computing at university in the future. During the exams I also had to prepare for a violin exam. It was definitely a busy time but it has all turned out well. Time management was an important skill to have in order to balance practice and revision. Throughout the holidays I have been volunteering at local charity We Too! and enjoying my summer break after a year of hard work.”

Adi in S5 is a keen cricketer and has represented Cricket Scotland, achieved five As in Higher Business Studies, Chemistry, English, Human Biology and Mathematics. He commented: "Though balancing cricket and studies was slightly tricky, I am delighted with results today! Despite getting no sleep last night, it was well worth the wait this morning! I am very thankful to the school staff for supporting my journey so far. I am planning to take a gap year, travel the world playing cricket, before continuing my university studies."

Starting the next step in her journey to study Astrophysics in Edinburgh, Adorabella (S6) achieved four A Advanced Higher results in Biology, Mathematics, Mathematics of Mechanics and Physics. She highlighted: "I’d like to thank the entire Gordon’s community and teachers for all their support, especially the belief that I can achieve anything I put my mind to. My results are down to the support and investment from all of you. Thank you all so much!"

Mr Robin Macpherson, Head of Robert Gordon’s College summarised: “There’s an overwhelming sense of pride today in all that our pupils have achieved. The results are superb and open so many doors and pathways for the future. Our staff work so hard to create a culture in which young people are encouraged to be ambitious and brave, learning that hard work always pays off. The results are testament to the healthy partnership between pupils, parents and teachers working together to get fantastic outcomes. It’s a day of celebration for the whole community.

“I think it’s also worth reflecting on the success we’ve had with transitioning back from COVID into a more traditional examination diet, which wasn’t easy. So much of the past academic year was shrouded in uncertainty. The rules around self-isolation made teaching and learning extremely challenging at times, especially in the crucial period after Christmas. Our staff deserve a lot of praise for their dedication, and our pupils showed a brilliant level of focus through the various ups and downs of the past twelve months. We are so proud of them all.”
