Pupils at Robert Gordon’s College were treated to a thrilling morning of innovation and inspiration as the Aston Martin Aramco Formula One™ Team visited the campus, bringing with them a replica F1 car as part of their Make A Mark Tour. The visit, facilitated by former pupil Deborah Halliday, Class of 2010, offered an unforgettable opportunity for pupils to experience first-hand the world of F1 engineering and teamwork that drives success both on and off the racetrack.

Deborah, now Head of Creative Projects and Production at Aston Martin Aramco Formula One™ Team, returned to her former school to share her journey from RGC to one of the most recognisable names in motorsport. With over eight years of experience in live TV, digital content, and film production, Deborah has developed the technical and managerial expertise to lead complex production projects across the globe. Her impressive career includes working with Team GB, FIFA, The British & Irish Lions, Guinness Six Nations, Paralympics GB, and The Commonwealth Games.

In her talk, Deborah reflected on how her time at Robert Gordon’s College helped shape her curiosity and drive; qualities that have fuelled her career in sport and media. She spoke passionately about the ethos behind the Make A Mark initiative, which brings the excitement of Formula One to schools, hospitals, and communities, aiming to inspire future generations through inclusion, education, and engagement.

STEM learning in action

Pupils from Nursery, Junior and Senior School enjoyed a close-up look at the stunning Aston Martin Aramco replica car. The excitement was palpable as Primary 6 and 7 enjoyed seeing the replica car arriving in the centre of the quad. Mr Hall, a lifelong F1 enthusiast, was as animated as the pupils, sharing in their enthusiasm for engineering excellence.

In the Senior School, S1 Technology and Physics pupils were captivated by the scale and precision of the car, while members of the Green Car Club, led by Mr Lamplugh, explored the sustainability aspects of F1 technology. The team’s visit offered invaluable insight into how innovation, teamwork, and passion intersect in the world of high-performance motorsport. For many, it sparked the belief that, with hard work and dedication, they too could one day contribute to the world of Formula One.

Making a mark through community and inclusion

The Aston Martin Aramco Formula One™ Team’s Make A Mark initiative underscores their commitment to driving positive progress; not only through racing success but through meaningful engagement with communities. Their focus on sustainability, community, and inclusion reflects their dedication to empowering the next generation, promoting access to STEM education, and inspiring students to reach their potential regardless of background.

Deborah emphasised, “Our team’s goal is to show that Formula One is about more than speed, it’s about innovation, collaboration, and making a positive impact. Through Make A Mark, we aim to inspire future engineers, scientists, and creators to dream big and shape the future.”

A lasting impression

The visit concluded with an inspiring Q&A session with Deborah, who shared behind-the-scenes insights from her work and encouraged pupils to pursue their passions fearlessly. Her return to RGC served as a powerful reminder of the global impact former pupils continue to make.

Robert Gordon’s College extends heartfelt thanks to Deborah Halliday and the Aston Martin Aramco Formula One™ Team for bringing the excitement of Formula One to the heart of our school community, and for showing that with imagination, inclusion, and innovation, we can all make a mark.
