Pupils from across the College have fully embraced the festive spirit, celebrating the season with a fantastic lineup of events and activities.
Advent Calendar Charity Collection
Before December even began, our incredible school community generously donated an impressive 950 advent calendars, which were then carefully distributed to various charities across Aberdeen, brightening the festive season for many.
Highland Dancers
Our Senior Highland Dance Team were honoured to perform at the Rotary Christmas Party at Curl, Aberdeen.
Invited by RGC Alumni, the team performed a range of dances where their incredible talent entertained their audience. The dancers have also been working hard on their special Christmas performance which you can see below.
RGC Christmas Card Competition
We're excited to reveal that the 2024 RGC Christmas card was designed by S5 pupil Rebecca!
It features all four House mascots, capturing the spirit of our school community. The design was selected through a competition open to S1-S6, with proceeds from sales supporting Charlie House. A huge thank you to everyone who participated and supported this wonderful charity.
P7 Bring and Buy Sale
Primary 7 pupils hosted a Bring and Buy event, bringing the Junior School community together to support both the Gathimba Edwards Foundation and Charlie House.
Leading up to the event, families donated pre-loved toys, books and more. Meanwhile, Primary 7 pupils crafted items, planned creative stalls and organised fun games and raffles.
All proceeds from the event will be donated to the Gathimba Edwards Foundation, a charity dedicated to building brighter futures and improving the quality of life for children and their families in both Kenya and the North East of Scotland.
Christmas Jumper Day and Festive Lunch
Our Junior School pupils lit up the halls with their most colourful and creative festive jumpers, all in aid of Charlie House. However, the excitement didn’t stop there. The Thomas Mackie Dining Hall was a buzz of activity as everyone tucked into a mouth-watering festive lunch, complete with all the trimmings, laughter, and sing-a-long music.
Carols in the Quad
The Gordon’s community gathered for the second Carols in the Quad, filling the air with the magic of Christmas as they sang a delightful range of joyful carols including Hark! The Herald Angels Sing and Away in a Manger. What started as a cold winter afternoon was transformed into a heartwarming event, full of festive cheer and community spirit.
House Movie Night
Primary 4 and Primary 5 pupils gathered this week for the highly anticipated House Movie Night! In their cosy pyjamas and onesies, they kicked back with delicious snacks and settled in to watch Elf on the big screen of MacRobert Hall. The children also brought in food donations, which were then shared with local food banks.
A Service of Nine Lessons and Carols
A heartwarming evening filled with traditional readings, congregational carols and festive choral music brought former pupils, current pupils and staff together to celebrate the festive season.
Our Senior School Chamber Choir, Senior Choir, Brass Ensemble, and the Advanced Higher Music class all performed a range of carols such as the ‘Sussex Carol’, ‘Alleluia’ and ‘All Hail His Coming Down to Earth’.
Throughout the evening, the service featured former pupils who shared a range of readings. Leading the congregation in a welcome and The Lord’s Prayer was former pupil Rev. Zak Robb, Class of ‘07.
We are very grateful to Alan Clark (Class of ‘99), Bex Elder (Class of ‘11), Timothy Marple (Class of ‘13), Eilidh Bruce (Class of ‘10), Neil Cordiner (Class of ‘80), Cameron Stephen (Class of ‘18), Craig McLeod (Class of ‘14), Sebastian Barclay (Class of ‘19) and Gaby Yusuf (current pupil and upcoming Class of ‘25) for sharing readings throughout the evening.
Thank you to former teacher Mr Alan Bickett and also to Mr Macpherson who provided a reading.
Santa stopped by Schoolhill
The Nursery and Junior School pupils were bursting with excitement as they welcomed a very special visitor to the College. Santa Claus spent time with some of our youngest learners, explaining how chilly it was in the North Pole and how his elves are hard at work.
Christmas Service
The Junior Christmas Service was a heartwarming celebration that brought pupils and staff to the Kirk of St Nicholas. Junior school pupils and staff joined together to sing carols and the P6/7 Choir performed ‘Just a winter’s tale’. The service was led by Rev. D. Eddie with readings from some of our Primary 7 pupils. The service offered a peaceful time of reflection and joy.
Junior School Festive Sing-a-long
MacRobert Hall was filled with music and bright smiles during the Junior School Festive Sing-a-long. The air was alive with the sound of children singing their hearts out to classic Christmas songs, spreading festive cheer and creating unforgettable memories.
