Congratulations to Sandy Manson, Class of '79, who has been appointed Lord Lieutenant for Aberdeenshire.

In his new role, Sandy will be Her Majesty’s personal representative for the area and duties will include organising visits from members of the Royal family, ensuring the Queens private office is informed of local issues and will be participating in civic, voluntary and social activities.

Sandy said: “It is a huge honour and privilege to be appointed as Her Majesty’s representative for Aberdeenshire in succession to James Ingleby. We are very fortunate in Aberdeenshire to have so many individuals and voluntary groups who selflessly play their part in making the quality of life in our communities all the better and in the current crisis the importance of such work is all the greater especially in supporting the most vulnerable in society.

“I am therefore greatly looking forward to working with my able team of Deputy Lieutenants in support of the priceless work which Her Majesty and her family do here in Aberdeenshire in helping inspire, encourage and recognise the significant contribution which so many individuals and organisations make in many different ways.”

Sandy is the Chair and Head of Client Service at Johnston Carmichael Chartered Accountants and Business Advisers. He joined Johnston Carmichael in 1991, prior to which he trained and worked throughout the UK and Europe for an international accountancy firm. He was appointed Managing Partner of the Aberdeen office in 1997 and was subsequently appointed Chief Executive in 2007. Sandy served as Chief Executive for 12 years and in 2019 was appointed chair.

Sandy Manson has had a long standing relationship with Robert Gordon’s College being a pupil himself then his two sons, Jamie and Andrew. His father Akki is also a former pupil leaving in 1947. More recently we were delighted to welcome back Sandy as the Founder’s Day Orator in 2018.

We are very much looking forward to seeing Sandy back to the College as Lord Lieutenant of Aberdeenshire at future events.
