Our Junior and Senior School pupils recently put their engineering skills and team spirit to the test as they took part in two exciting Greenpower racing events.

Primary 7 pupils enjoyed a hands-on experience in Alford, where they had the opportunity to race against other schools in the regional Greenpower Goblin competition. Having based their designs on the video game franchise Mario, the team competed in three events: drag, slalom and knockout. The cars won second place in the drag and slalom events, as well as securing second and third place finishes in the knockout rounds. After a tense judges’ deliberation, Team RGC were crowned overall winners of the competition. Congratulations to all our Primary 7 Young Engineers Club pupils!

Edgar and Joshua shared: “We all agreed that we had a great time although it was very hot and stuffy in our boiler suits and helmets! Luckily we had no problems with the cars and everything ran smoothly. We have achieved and learnt so much as well as having an amazing time.”

Meanwhile, the Senior School Greenpower Car Club braved much wetter conditions at Alford, where our S1 and S2 pupils raced in the national Greenpower Formula 24 event.

It was a wet and wild day, with torrential rain eventually forcing the cancellation of the final race. With waterlogged boots and muddy smiles, the pupils showed exactly what determination and team spirit look like. Soaked to the bone but laughing all the way through, they reminded us that the real power behind the wheel isn’t just in the car, it’s in the people who drive it.

Omer (S1) said: “Despite the harsh weather the race was a great experience and I am grateful I got the opportunity to participate even if we didn’t win. Next year we are going to be determined to win.”

James (S1) added: “The race was a really fun experience to see the other cars and think about what we could do next year and even though we didn’t win I enjoyed it and made new friends.”
