A team of four S4 pupils have achieved an outstanding second-place finish in the Scottish Actuarial Innovators Challenge 2025-26, a national competition that encourages young people to apply mathematics, data analysis and problem-solving skills to real-world challenges.

Held in Heriot-Watt University, Jamie, Keanu, Sunjae and Mihir impressed judges with the quality of their research, analytical thinking and presentation skills, securing second place among a highly competitive field of finalists from across the country.

Mr Fogiel, Head of Mathematics, said: “We are incredibly proud of our pupils’ achievement. The challenge demanded creativity, teamwork and rigorous analysis, and the team rose to the occasion. Their success reflects both their dedication and the strength of their mathematical and problem-solving abilities.”

The competition, organised by the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries (IFoA), challenged teams from schools across Scotland to analyse a complex case study centred on the emerging space tourism industry. Pupils were required to assess risks, evaluate financial considerations and develop innovative recommendations before presenting their findings to a panel of judges.
