With the first kick-off meeting of the year complete, members of the newly elected Junior School Pupil Council are all set for the 2021-2022 session.

Consisting of four representatives from Nursery and one pupil from each Junior School class, the Pupil Council meet once a month to discuss school matters and work together to make a positive impact within the community.

In addition to the discussion of general school matters with Junior School teachers, the group will meet with Mr MacPherson to discuss whole school issues. This year, a key task for the pupils is to think of ways of encouraging Junior School pupils to look after all property and keep the College looking clean and tidy.

Every school year, the Junior School nominates a charity to fundraise for throughout the year and the Pupil Council’s first task was to put forward some suggestions to Mrs Webb. Using the information collated by the group, Mrs Webb will make a decision on the official Junior School charity for the 2021-2022 session.

Mrs Jamieson, Principal Teacher of the Junior School said: “As Article 12 of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC) explains “children and young people should have a say in decisions that affect their lives”.

“The Junior School Pupil Council is a great way for Pupils to take on a leadership role, promote the voice of the pupils, problem solve together and make an impact. They look forward to updating everyone on their efforts this year.”
