Some of our S6 pupils have spent the last four weeks planning and creating a winter wonderland in the Craig Centre for Performing Arts. 

As part of their Creative Industries course, the pupils were asked to organise and run an event for the Gordon’s community. They created products, developed their team working skills and of course, helped Santa wrap the presents. 

Over the weekend, the pupils were delighted to raise over £800.00 for Maggie's Aberdeen, a charity which supports those living with cancer. 

The Robert Gordon’s College Parents Association provided the pupils with the start-up costs as well as many of the decorations that could be seen throughout the grotto. Speaking about the event, RGCPA Co-Chair Anne-Sophie shared: “Miss Boyne, Mrs Nicol and the S6 students organised a very joyful Christmas fair on Saturday. The RGCPA was delighted to provide the funds to set up the events and it was lovely to see so many Children excited to see Santa. The market stalls were also a great opportunity for the senior school pupils to showcase their own skillset or the ones developed through some of the co-curricular clubs. I’m looking forward to going back next year and congratulations to the organisation committee for such a successful event.”

S6 pupil and Charities Committee co-leader Melissa commented:  “The Charities Committee were delighted to have the support of the Creative Industries department to support Maggie's Aberdeen. It was great to have the opportunity to raise money for our charity whilst celebrating the holidays with the RGC community.”

Sofia, also S6 and a Creative Industries pupil noted: “Being able to be part of the planning and organising process of an event like this was so rewarding, especially for teaching us the skills that we will be able to use in various other areas of our lives! On top of that, providing a memorable experience on the day for so many families was really important to us and I think it paid off. The event itself was really great and everyone had such a lovely time. It was so nice seeing how excited the kids were by the grotto and market!”

S2 pupil Keanu, who recently created some of the Mini Auld Hoose ornaments that can be seen here, added: “I had a great time selling our products to enthusiastic teachers and parents. I really enjoyed striking up conversations with our customers and seeing how happy they were with the things we made.”

Miss Boyne, Principal Teacher of Drama, said: “We were a little apprehensive on Saturday morning as the doors opened but that did not last long as the Christmas music started and the children came in with beaming faces, excited to see Santa. The event was a huge success and everyone came out feeling a little more festive. It is always nice to welcome parents and children into the school, especially since Covid. Our pupils worked incredibly hard and we are very proud of them for all their efforts.” 

The Creative Industries course gives pupils an opportunity to explore their personal creativity whilst also learning to work as part of a team.
