Twenty-eight Senior School pupils recently attended the annual Scottish Mathematical Challenge Awards Ceremony at the University of Aberdeen. 

The pupils were invited to the ceremony in recognition of their outstanding performances in this year's challenge, where they received a range of awards celebrating their achievements. Among the prizes presented was the much sought-after Scottish Mathematical Challenge mug, awarded to pupils who achieved exceptional results. 

In total, Robert Gordon’s pupils earned an impressive 46 certificates, including 19 Gold, 18 Silver and nine Bronze awards, highlighting the depth of mathematical talent across the school. 

As well as celebrating their success, pupils enjoyed an inspiring lecture exploring Graham's Number, one of the largest numbers ever to appear in a serious mathematical proof. The fascinating talk introduced the mathematical ideas behind this extraordinary concept and demonstrated how mathematicians can reason about numbers that are far beyond everyday comprehension.
