Before the end of the Spring term, our Model UN pupils had a successful trip to St Margaret’s School for Girls for a mini conference.
Olivia S (S4) and Kiran (S4) were successful in having the resolution selected for debate in the World Health Organisation representing the UAE. The topic focused on food security and the use of aid in conflict. Despite fierce debate, Callum P (S5) and Tejas G (S5), speaking fluently against the resolution while representing India, ultimately saw it pass. The delegates continued throughout the afternoon to hone their skills of diplomacy and understanding of complex geopolitical issues.
The emergency debate focused on the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam, access to water and the tensions over resources in the region. An impressive conglomerate of delegates from RGC of India and The UAE worked together to speak against a resolution which they felt didn’t provide sufficient, equitable solutions for all countries involved.
Mrs Willetts, Model UN Coordinator, shared: “The delegates represented their respective countries with accuracy and shared well thought out arguments and solutions to conflict. They were impressively awarded in each category.”
Congratulations to the following pupils who were awarded in each category:
