Earlier this month, we were delighted to welcome and host pupils from across Scotland for a Model UN conference.

The event was opened by our Secretary General, George, who warmly welcomed delegates and introduced guest speaker, MSP and Shadow Cabinet Secretary for Justice Mr Liam Kerr. Mr Kerr delivered an inspiring address on ‘The Future of Debate’, sharing valuable insights and advice with pupils. His speech highlighted the power of dialogue in shaping a better world and the importance of critical thinking in today's society.

After the opening ceremony, the delegates were divided into four committees to discuss global issues from solar radiation to the civil war in Sudan. Throughout the course of the day, resolutions were passed, points of information were confidently asked and amendments to delegates’ work were proposed continuously.

During the closing ceremony, we were delighted to welcome Katy Gordon, Class of ‘16 who spoke with pupils about her experience in Model UN at the College as well as her role in marketing for IKEA.

Although all delegates spoke with an incredibly high level of quality and passion, France (Loretto School) was awarded Best Delegation, closely followed by the USA (St Margaret’s School for Girls) who won Highly Commended Delegation.
