Earlier this week, over 40 pupils attended a Hairspray dance workshop led by West End leading lady Charlotte Riby.

Pupils joined online to learn the steps to the finale dance “You Can’t Stop the Beat” set out by Charlotte who played the alternative Tracey Turnblad in the original West End production.

Drama teacher Miss Boyne said: “We were delighted to welcome Charlotte to our virtual Hairspray workshop. Charlotte also sang through the session and what a voice she has! Our pupils (and some staff!) had a great time dancing along and we certainly got our heart rates up.”

Megan C (S6) added: "This week was the first musical theatre workshop and Hairspray is one of my favourite musicals ever so I knew it was going to be amazing.

“The workshop allowed us to step away from our laptops, push aside our schoolbooks and step into the world of Tracy Turnblad.

“The Q&A gave us all the chance to ask personal questions which we will value as we continue our musical theatre journey!"

Benefiting greatly from the session, Iona C (S2) concluded: “I really enjoyed the Hairspray workshop. I thought it was super helpful and was a great learning experience for me”.

The next musical workshop takes place in two weeks' time and centres around the critically acclaimed musical Hamilton, much to the delight of avid fans.
