We were thrilled to welcome students from Colegio Plurilingüe Mariano Franciscanas Vigo to the College as part of an exciting Spanish exchange programme, to add to our existing exchanges to Paris and Langen in Germany.
During their stay, the students, alongside our S3 Spanish pupils, had the opportunity to explore some of the North East of Scotland’s most iconic landmarks, such as Dunnottar Castle and a trip to Stonehaven. Tasting some Scottish cuisine, they bravely sampled traditional dishes like haggis, rowies, and even Scottish tablet ice cream, which was a big hit!
Perhaps the most meaningful part of the exchange was the chance for the Spanish students to experience life with a Scottish family and attend lessons at the College. Living with a host family gave them a true sense of what everyday life is like in Scotland, and they enjoyed the warmth and hospitality that came with it. Attending lessons also allowed them to experience the educational system here and bond with their partners.
Mrs Moscoso, Teacher of Languages, shared: “We are looking forward to our pupils visiting Vigo in May, where they will have a chance to practise their Spanish in a real-world context. They will be creating memories and friendships for life.”
Mr Campbell, Head of Languages, said: “We were delighted to welcome our Spanish exchange partners from Vigo for their first visit to Aberdeen! A huge thank you to Mrs Moscoso for her hard-work and dedication in making this exchange a reality. Our pupils embraced this opportunity with enthusiasm and resilience, stepping out of their comfort zones to connect across cultures. Exchange trips like these are truly invaluable. Not only do they enhance language skills in a real-world setting, but they also build confidence, friendships and a deeper appreciation of different ways of life. The pupils are already eagerly anticipating the Spanish leg of this exciting new partnership.”
S3 pupil Joseph said: “I really enjoyed having Mateo live with us for a week. It was great fun showing him what Scotland has to offer and I would definitely recommend the experience for anyone studying a modern language. I can’t wait to visit Vigo in a few weeks!”
