The energy was electric and the atmosphere brimming with excitement as our Primary 5 pupils took to the Craig Centre for Performing Arts stage for their much-anticipated ‘Born in the USA’ showcase.
Centred on their class topic of the USA, pupils dedicated time in specialist Drama, Music and Art lessons to prepare for their first P5 performance for family and friends. The enthusiasm and curiosity sparked during these lessons were brought vividly to life on stage through song, choreography, physical theatre and expressive storytelling.
Inspired by the Little People, Big Dreams series, pupils shared their knowledge and understanding of influential American icons through Music, Drama and Dance, including Michelle Obama, Elvis Presley, Neil Armstrong, Dolly Parton, Taylor Swift, Stevie Wonder and Simone Biles.
Adding an extra burst of excitement to the evening was a special appearance by the P5 Rhythmic Rockers, who brought the Eras Tour to life with their Taylor Swift–inspired choreography. Every P5 pupil also performed an instrumental piece of either New York, New York or I Gotta Feeling by the Black Eyed Peas. The audience was captivated by the innovative use of movement, music and dialogue, which seamlessly wove together themes from the rich history and culture of the United States.
P5 pupil Olivia shared: "Before I went on the stage I was really nervous but when I got on stage I felt really excited and when I heard the audience clap, I was super happy!"
Aria said: "I thought the P5 show was really fun and exciting."
George said: "I had a real fear of being on stage before this but now that I've done the show, I feel like I'm a lot more confident. Once I was on stage, I didn't want it to end!"
Clyde added: "It was really nerve-wracking in the wings because you could see all the people taking their seats. Like the judges in our show, I couldn't pick a favourite bit because I loved it all."
