Since the start of the 2024-25 academic session, S6 pupils Catriona, Daisy, and Luke have shown creativity throughout the Powering Futures enhancement course, and their hard work recently came to a thrilling conclusion. The team presented their innovative final solution to a panel of business judges at Aberdeen Science Centre, showcasing the culmination of months of collaboration. By applying the principles of sustainability and the circular economy, they developed a creative and practical project that promises to make a real impact.

Their solution was a scheme to reward people using buses, electric e-bikes, and scooters located at bus stops through an app they devised. The design for their logo, app, and marketing was completed by Luke, who is also studying Art this session, although he plans to pursue a career as a mechanical engineer.

During the presentation, the team showcased their app and its features, answering a series of challenging questions posed by the business judges. Their well-thought-out responses and thorough understanding of their solution earned them excellent feedback, with judges praising the team’s innovative approach and clear communication.

Catriona said: "Presenting to an unknown audience was more relaxing than I imagined."

Daisy added: "I thoroughly enjoyed the alternative way of learning on this course as it was so much more interactive and pupil-driven."

The Powering Futures course, which allows pupils to gain a SCQF level 6 qualification over the session, provides students with valuable hands-on experience in problem-solving, teamwork, and real-world applications of business concepts. It is one of the many Curriculum Enhancement Courses available to our S6 pupils, alongside a choice of any combination of 32 Highers and 25 Advanced Highers.

Congratulations to the team for their hard work, creativity, and impressive presentation!
