The RGC 1st VII netball team delivered an outstanding performance at the Scottish Independent Schools Netball Association Open Tournament, hosted at Fettes earlier this month, securing silver medals and an individual award.

Competing against top regional teams, the squad displayed excellent teamwork, skill, and determination throughout the tournament. Their impressive efforts in both attack and defence earned them a place in the final, where they fought hard in a closely contested match against Strathallan. Though narrowly missing out on the top spot, they proudly took silver home to Schoolhill - a fantastic achievement.

Their success was further recognised, as officials named Lexie L (S4) Defender of the Tournament, recognising her outstanding performance on the court. Meanwhile, the RGC 1st VII players awarded Elizabeth C (S5) Most Valuable Player for her exceptional contribution throughout the competition.

Ava B (S6), Captain, shared: “Playing and captaining the First VII netball team this year has been such an amazing experience. We have a great amount of talent in our team which has led to our success across all competitions. We made it to the final undefeated after facing strong teams in the rounds. Unfortunately, we couldn’t quite maintain our earlier strength in the second meeting with Strathallan. However, finishing 2nd is still a great achievement that all of the girls should be proud of.

“In the Aberdeen local league, we are currently undefeated despite having played against some strong opposition such as Mackie. We have also had success in the Scottish Cup, reaching the last 16 after a tough win against Monifieth. The team has worked so hard all season, and we hope this continues in our next Scottish Cup match against St Columba’s High School.”

Mrs Fraser, 1st VII Coach, shared: “Silver marks a significant achievement, highlighting their dedication and growth over the season. We are incredibly proud of the team, who received commendations on the standard and quality of the girls’ play throughout the tournament. They were exceptional and really did Robert Gordon’s College, and the region, proud.

“Demonstrating such a high level of play from the very first minute of the opening game until the last minute of the final is testament to the quality of the players in the 1st VII this year. All 11 squad players took to the court, securing wins over Strathallan, George Heriot’s, Mary Erskine School, High School of Dundee, and The Glasgow Academy. They also won gold in the Aberdeen Secondary Schools Tournament in November, remain undefeated in the District League with a final fixture to play against Westhill Academy, and are through to the final 16 in the Scottish Cup, where they will play St Columba’s in Gorouch on Monday.

“It is very unique for a school team to boast this much depth and quality across the court. There is an even mix of S4, S5, and S6 players in the 1st VII team, reflecting the strength of the netball programme at Robert Gordon’s College. I’m honored to coach such a positive and driven group and excited for the rest of the season.”

Congratulations to all players and the coaching team on this remarkable achievement. The tournament was live streamed through YouTube, allowing supporters to watch the thrilling competition, and it is now available online for anyone who missed the live broadcast or wishes to relive the exciting moments.
