The RGC Football Countesswells Cup took over Countesswells Sports Fields this week, bringing a full day of exhilarating football action for S1 and S2 pupils from across the region.
Launching the first tournament at the home of RGC Sport, the fixture list featured teams from Albyn School and St Leonards, as well as the hosts Robert Gordon’s College.
As the sun shone over Countesswells, the atmosphere was already buzzing with anticipation. Teams took to the pitch at 11am, with games running throughout the day, showcasing the talents of young athletes eager to make their mark.
Mr McNeil, Head of Football, said: “We had a fantastic day of football at Countesswells. The matches were brilliant to watch, reflecting the high level of talent among the players. We played a multi-format tournament of 11v11 matches where the more physically developed players showed their ability, and 7v7 matches where the more technical players had their chance to shine.
“Our Grounds team works hard all year to ensure we have the best grass playing surfaces in the region and my thanks goes to them for their efforts which only enhance our sports programme here at RGC.
“Football at RGC is on an upward trajectory with us expanding our competitive football provision to include teams from Primary 4 all the way up to S6. With our specialist Nursery and P1-3 football sessions we provide participation opportunities for every age group at the College from 3-18, and I am delighted to see the growth of the sport at RGC in such a short space of time. I am confident that we will host more tournaments at RGC in the future and look forward to welcoming more schools from across the country to Countesswells.”
