We are thrilled to announce the outstanding achievements of two of our talented pipers; Piping Instructor Mr Brown and Pipe Major James, at two of the world’s most renowned piping events.
Pipe Major James achieved 1st place in the U18 March, Strathspey and Reel event at the Northern Meeting Solo Piping Competition. The event, which welcomes pipers from across the globe, was held in Inverness.
James also placed 1st in the U18 Strathspey and Reel Solo, piping at the world renowned Braemar Highland Gathering where His Majesty King Charles III and Her Majesty Queen Camilla were in attendance.
James shared: “I was delighted to win the Under 18 March, Strathspey and Reel at the Northern Meeting this year, especially considering the calibre of the players from Scotland, New Zealand, USA and Germany. It proved that all the practice and hard work paid off, setting me up nicely for the remaining competitions this year.”
Mr Brown attended the Argyllshire Gathering in Oban, where he also came 1st winning the ‘A Grade’ Strathspey & Reel, Silver Medal.
Mr Brown, Piping Tutor, said: “I am delighted to have won the A Grade Strathspey and Reel at the Argyllshire Gathering this year. It was a real highlight to my year, and also to my previous years of competing too. Solo piping has always been a core value to my piping journey. Since I was young, I have been extremely grateful to have had the tutors and opportunities to not only help make it happen, but the right support and guidance to help me with the success that I have had.”
Mr Sumner summarised: “James represents the gold standard in what we look for in terms of musical and personal development from our pipers and drummers. He is talented, well mannered, disciplined, committed, hardworking and humble - a wonderful ambassador for Robert Gordon’s College and our Pipe Band. Mr Brown's achievements showcase the wealth of talent we have across our vibrant and exciting RGC piping community.”
