A team of senior pupils have progressed to the national final of Vex IQ Squared Away which will take place in Telford in the new year.

The regional heat took place at Robert Gordon's College on Friday 6th December with teams competing from schools throughout the area. The teams arrived with their competing robots (created  created back in school) in a bid to score points. Two robots work together to move and lift cubes and move balls using claws, rammers and forklifts.

Kimberley (S2) said: "There were five teams from RGC who built robots this year and after an in-school competition, the two winning teams progressed to the regional competition. At this competition, there were teams from in and around Aberdeen with some very cool robots who competed. By the end of the first set of matches, both RGC teams were in the top positions. We were up against some extremely tough competition. Just before the final match started, both robots broke. In the nick of time, we managed to fix the robots and get to the course. The two teams before us had managed to get a hard-to-beat score of 81, but with our well thought through plan, we were ready to go. Everything went to plan and by the end of the match, we had a score of 85. Both RGC teams had won. All in all, it was a great day and a unique experience. We definitely aren’t going to forget it in a hurry."

Following the regional heats the winners from each region are invited to the national final (Telford, near Birmingham) to compete for a place at the International Final (Kentucky, America).
