In the ever-changing landscape of the online world, Mrs Power recognises discussing technology with children can feel daunting. She recently launched the ‘Growing Up Online’ series to equip families with the knowledge and techniques they can use to engage confidently with both their children and technology.
Topics:
- Managing screen time and digital wellbeing
- AI, algorithms, and the influence of technology
- Fake news, misinformation and critical thinking online
- Parent controls and monitoring tools
The first session, titled “Managing Screen Time and Digital Wellbeing”, focused on building healthy habits, the impacts of screen usage, and supporting online wellbeing. Parents and Guardians received an in-depth presentation that highlighted the benefits and impact of technology, as well as providing practical strategies for encouraging and building healthy screen habits with their children, in an age-appropriate way. A brief summary of the session is available for families on the Parent Portal under School Information > Digital Education.
Our next session, AI, algorithms and the influence of technology, will take place on Wednesday, 18 February 2026, at 6.30pm. It will explore how digital platforms, recommendation systems, and automated technologies shape what young people see and experience online. The emphasis will be on developing a shared understanding to support informed, constructive conversations at home.
Mrs Power, Director of Digital Education, said: “Technology is an important part of our children’s lives. Media and knowledge are more accessible now than they have ever been in history. With such a vast sea of information just a few clicks away, it is important that parents, and subsequently our children, are equipped with the skills, knowledge and habits to build a healthy and beneficial relationship with our screens.”
