At 10.00am on Friday 12 June, pipers across Scotland are being encouraged to stand on their doorsteps or in their gardens and play the classic march, Heroes of St Valery, in memory of the men who fought in the Battle of St Valery-en-Caux otherwise known as the Forgotten Dunkirk.

Legion Scotland, PoppyScotland and the Royal Caledonian Trust (Scotland's Armed Forces Children's Charity) have joined forces to organise the tribute, which will also include online learning resources for young people, virtual tributes and a fundraising campaign to support the work of these military charities.

Mr Sumner said: “Pipers from the RGC PipeBand have been busy learning the tune Heroes of St Valery to pay their own tributes. We will be getting the PipeBand back together on Hangouts Meet on 12 June to play the tune as a collective. We want to help shine a light of remembrance on the brave men who gave their lives or were captured and taken thousands of miles across Eastern Europe where they remained until the end of the War.”
