In the heart of Aberdeen, Robert Gordon’s College has launched a series of science, music, and creative summer holiday camps designed to engage and inspire young minds. Taking place at the College’s city centre campus on Schoolhill, children currently in P3 to S6 from any school are invited to join the fun for the very first time.
Mrs Sarah Jappy, Head of Science and camp lead for our now sold out Science Squad, shared: “Science Squad was designed to offer children the opportunity to participate in hands-on activities with a science theme. Children are naturally curious about the world around them, and our camps are the perfect way to nurture this, all while keeping them entertained and well cared for during the holidays."
Building on this winning formula, Robert Gordon’s College has introduced a variety of original camp concepts designed to appeal to those in search of an alternative to, or complement for, the many wonderful sport and activity camps on offer. An exciting new option is STEM Squad, which invites children from P6 to S1 to come along and experience a range of fun-filled science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) activities and practical experiments.
STEM Squad camp lead Miss Tracy Reid commented: “With a slightly older age group, we can really up the ante with STEM Squad. Throughout the week, we’ll explore themes including 'disgusting digestion', 'interesting intestines', 'dinosaur diet', 'soda geysers', and even build and launch a rocket and a catching device!”
Additionally, the highly regarded RGC Pipe Band warmly invites pipers and drummers of all abilities to join their Pipe Band Summer School. “No experience is necessary,” said camp lead Mr Jason Sumner. “After three days of games, lessons and practical workshops designed to build skills and instil confidence, our young musicians will perform a musical display in Union Terrace Gardens to delight friends and family.”
Another exciting new addition is the Puppet-crafters Camp, which will wrap up the summer holidays with a creative crafting experience. “Children who enjoy using their imagination and artistic skills are encouraged to join the Puppet-crafters this summer. We’ll be exploring different types of puppets, as well as crafting our own by recycling and repurposing household items - teaching children the importance of sustainability in a fun and engaging way,” said Mrs Susan Rhodes, who leads the three-day camp in August.
