Inspired by the physical timeline in The Craig Centre for Performing Arts, Tom Cumming, Archivist created an interactive timeline exploring the evolution of the College from its beginnings in 1731 to the present day.

Visitors to the online timeline are able to recount the story of Robert Gordon and the history of his original foundation: Robert Gordon’s Hospital (1731-1881). You can then follow the story of its transformation into Robert Gordon’s College (1881-present), including how the seed of the Robert Gordon University was sown in the evening classes at the end of the 19th century.

The timeline contains images from the College’s large collection of paintings and its extensive photograph archive, together with videos in which the early days of the institution are explored.
