S2 pupils were delighted to welcome Adele Luta, scientist, innovator and TEDx speaker from Houston, to the College to deliver an engaging talk on ‘Space into Energy’.
During her talk, Adele spoke about her previous career at the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) Johnson Space Flight Center as a certified Mission Control Center flight controller and astronaut instructor, as well as her current role at Oceaneering International Inc.
She also enlightened pupils about scientific and engineering challenges to living and exploring extreme environments, while sharing her own experiences as an aquanaut, seaplane pilot and coral restoration volunteer scuba diver.
Mrs Drummond, Teacher of Mathematics, shared: “As well as making the pupils think about the science behind adapting to life under water and in space, and the personal skills and attributes needed to do that job successfully; the overarching themes of Adele's talk were resilience, enjoying what you do, and kindness. At the end she gave out stickers with ‘Be Kind: to yourself; to others; to this planet’. I thought that was a brilliant philosophy to live by!”
