Our S2 pupils recently embraced the great outdoors, enjoying (mostly!) brilliant weather during their much-anticipated annual learning outdoor day.
This year, the adventure shifted to Hill o’ Fare, offering a fresh challenge for many and a welcome change from the usual Scolty Hill. The new location provided stunning views of the city and presented a variety of physical and navigational challenges for the pupils.
The day was a crucial part of their outdoor learning programme, preparing groups for upcoming Duke of Edinburgh’s Award expeditions. Pupils refreshed their navigational skills, including handrailing, contour interpretation, shelter building, timing, and teamwork. Practical outdoor learning was also central to the day, with pupils gaining hands-on experience using stoves and sampling a range of expedition foods.
Mr Tayler, Head of Outdoor Education, shared: “A huge thank you goes to Garry from Hillgoers and Lyle from Granite Adventures for their invaluable knowledge and enthusiasm throughout the days. We are also incredibly grateful to all the teachers who attended, as they provided motivation and inspiration to the pupils. The S2 Outdoor Days were a resounding success, equipping our pupils with essential skills and fostering a strong sense of adventure.”
