After welcoming their Spanish exchange partners to Scotland in April, it was finally time for our National 5 Spanish pupils to travel to Vigo, Spain.

Continuing to strengthen the bond between both schools, the pupils attended lessons alongside their partners at Colegio Plurilingüe Mariano Franciscanas Vigo, all while staying with host families which allowed them to fully immerse themselves in Spanish life, language, and culture.

From trying traditional Galician cuisine, including local favourites such as squid and octopus, to exploring the sights of Vigo and attending a live Galician bagpipe concert, the pupils embraced every aspect of their visit with enthusiasm.

S3 pupil Jamie shared: “I really enjoyed the Spanish exchange as we were able to be completely immersed in the language. Being able to make friends whilst speaking Spanish showed us how we could apply what we had learned in class and going to the shops and staying with the families exposed us to the culture our new friends lived in. Given the opportunity, I would certainly be doing it again.”

Mrs Moscoso, Teacher of Spanish, added: “We’re incredibly proud of how well our pupils represented the school and are grateful to our Spanish partners for their warm hospitality. This cultural exchange continues to be a highlight of the S3 curriculum, offering valuable lessons that go far beyond the classroom. This trip provided the perfect opportunity for students to practice speaking Spanish in real-world situations, learn from native speakers, and build confidence in their language skills.  They also immersed themselves in the rich culture, gaining confidence and a deeper appreciation for the language and its people. ”
