In partnership with the Scottish Association for Music Education and The Cumnock Tryst, we were delighted to welcome Secondary Music teachers to Schoolhill last night for a CPD event focussing on composition and creativity.

Internationally acclaimed composer and conductor, Sir James MacMillan CBE, led delegates in a variety of composition activities, stressing the importance of creativity for health and wellbeing, confidence building and musical development.

Mrs Massie, Head of Creative Arts, shared: "I am delighted we were able to host this fantastic workshop on site at schoolhill.  As a committee member of the Scottish Association for Music Education, I am also thrilled that Sir James Macmillan is now our Honorary President and I’m confident that this will lead to more exciting projects in the future, not just for CPD opportunities but for our pupils too. Composition is an essential part of our Music curriculum and it is fantastic to have such an inspirational figure to support teachers and pupils across the country."

Mr Macpherson, Head of College, added: “We have really increased the number of professional learning events we have been able to host for the wider community and it was great to add SAME and the Cumnock Trust to our programme. We really value being a centre for professional development and this was a fantastic event. Sir James is a national icon and the chance for local music teachers to work with him for the evening really was something special. We look forward to running more events with SAME in the future.”
