Rugby

The U16A team travelled to Edinburgh on Thursday to play Royal High School in the semi-final of the Scottish Plate. Sadly the game ended in a loss but the boys have enjoyed the experience of competing in this schools’ competition.

On Saturday our fixtures were against Dollar Academy. The 2nd XV played a very exciting and competitive match where the boys dug in well took responsibility and communicated effectively. They demonstrated some excellent rugby as the game progressed and were delighted with the win. The U16B side drew in another exciting match from start to finish with lots of attacking intent from both teams. The S2A team had a very close match until the final 10 minutes where we missed a couple of tackles as Dollar counterattacked going wide. There was some strong running and high quality structured attack but we were unable to keep resetting and fell into the trap of repetitive offloading towards the end of the game. The remaining teams played against strong Dollar sides with some enjoyable matches where the pupils fought hard and learned a lot.

Girls’ Hockey

The 1st XI won their rescheduled fixture against Kelso High School on Wednesday in the first round of the Scottish Schools’ Plate competition. The team played with excellent control were soon in the lead after a little wobble. After the first goal was scored the girls stepped up a gear and started to take the game by the scruff of the neck. The 2nd half was just as exhilarating with plenty more goals. Well done to Kirsty scoring a hat trick and to Player of the Match, Connie.

It was a very early start for our travelling teams on Saturday morning as they headed to Edinburgh for fixtures against George Watson’s College while we welcomed the other teams to Countesswells. The S2B team recorded a convincing win, playing more aggressive and direct hockey than our opposition. This was a great team performance all round with some great goalie saves and defending, along with four goals from Isabella. The 1st XI held Watson’s to a draw in a high quality, high tempo match in which the girls attacked from the start. Mr Stuart was full of praise for the four S1 and P7 teams commenting that it was a day of learning and developing for the girls. They gave excellent second half performances after understanding the level, speed and intensity of Watson’s in the first halves. All the girls gave a huge amount of effort to increase the work rate and showed real understanding and willing to try and do things the correct way and in the right manner. All four teams finished the game playing better hockey than they did at the beginning with the girls getting the Why’s of what we were trying to do which was extremely pleasing even if not fully expressed on the scoreboards.

Boys’ Hockey

There were no games for our boys teams on Saturday morning, instead U14 & U15 boys took the opportunity for some training matches. Well done boys, there was some outstanding hockey on show.

Netball

Due to a busy week with the RGC school show we had a smaller squad of 8 in our 3rd VII to play against Westhill 1st VII on Thursday. This was a very competitive fixture for our 3rd team and we felt we were really pushed to match their level of fitness in the final quarter. Sadly after our 1 goal lead at half time, we could not sustain this fast pace of play and we are reflecting on how we can combat this with our Christmas training schedules over the upcoming holidays. Overall it was a very enjoyable and competitive fixture for the girls. Sarah H was awarded Player of the Match for the second week.

Team of the Week

S2B Girls Hockey with their 5-0 victory away against George Watson’s S2B team. Player of the day Isabella J for scoring four of the goals.
