Rugby

The S3 boys team travelled to Lathallan on Thursday where they played against the Lathallan U16 side. Although a loss for RGC, the boys played really well against this older, bigger team.

There were no rugby fixtures on Saturday morning, but all teams were out training at a very cold and frosty Countesswells.

Girls’ Hockey

Sadly the freezing overnight temperatures on Friday meant that all hockey fixtures against Gordonstoun at Countesswells were cancelled on Saturday morning along with the P6-S1 training matches.

Boys’ Hockey

There were no fixtures for the boys on Saturday. Instead the 1st XI boys enjoyed a session of indoor training. Outdoor training for the U14 and U15s was cancelled due to the frozen pitches at Countesswells.

Netball

The 2nd VII put in a great team performance to win their match against Aberdeen Grammar 1st VII on Monday. Their focus for the game was on communication and Player of the Match was awarded to Freya McNeill.

The S2-3 Junior Team played against Albyn School in the Aberdeen League on Thursday. This was a tough game which ended in a win for Albyn, but the girls kept fighting till the final whistle. All girls played really well, especially those in defence who got many tips and interceptions.

Also on Thursday some of our S2 and S3 girls played in two matches against Aberdeen Grammar. The pupils had fun playing in these friendlies where the focus was on match play and no scores were kept. We are delighted that Aberdeen Grammar are keen for another friendly next term.

Our P6/P7 netball girls had a fantastic time on Sunday competing in the Aberdeen District Netball Association U13 Festival. They enjoyed the experience of playing against other schools and clubs as well as putting into practice the skills they learn at their after school netball club each week.

Basketball

Senior Basketball enjoyed an excellent win against Bucksburn Academy on Monday afternoon. This was a well played match by both teams with the score close throughout the first half. RGC managed to pull away in the last quarter in the 2nd half, for their second victory in the Aberdeen City Schools League.

Ski Racing

Our Junior School Ski Race team competed in the SSSA Indoor Skier and Boarder Cross Championships at Braehead Snow Factor in Glasgow on Wednesday. They had a very successful day and were delighted to win the trophy for overall Team Champions. In the individual events, Louisa M (P6) won 3rd place and Sophie K (P7) came 6th in the P5-P7 girls event. In the P5-P7 boys event Blair M (P7) was placed 5th.

The Senior event was held the following day. Our A Team pupils finished 5th overall and Daisy C was placed 2nd in the S1-S3 girls competition.

Well done to all our skiers who took part in these events.

Swimming

The Senior School Swimming Gala took place at Aberdeen Aquatics Centre on Wednesday afternoon. This is a much anticipated event in which our pupils are able to showcase their swimming talent. The standard of swimming on show was very high and it was a day for breaking school records: Sarah H (S2) broke the record in the S2 girls 50m Backstroke with a time of 32.10 secs beating the previous record set in 2011 by Abi P in a time of 32.82 secs. Sarah also broke the record for S2 girls 50m Butterfly in a time of 32.32 secs, beating the time of 33.16 secs set by Ceri G at the last Gala. The record for S5/6 girls 50m Fly was broken twice in the one race, by Katy D and then by Toni D who now holds the record with a time of 32.72 secs. The record had been held since 2008, when it was set by Francesca W in a time of 34.57 secs. There were lots of fun events too, with the Cannon Relay, won by Collyhill, the House Relay and the House Captains relay which they swam in Christmas-themed costumes!
