Rugby

The 2nd XV and S2A and B teams travelled to Edinburgh on Saturday to play against Stewart’s Melville College and High School of Dundee. The 2nd XV were delighted with a convincing win in a match where they demonstrated good, strong running and excellent tackling. The S2A boys played a triangular tournament, winning against High School of Dundee and losing to Stewart’s Melville. The S2B team lost to Stewart’s Melville. Sadly the continuous wet weather in Aberdeen meant that all rugby at Countesswells was cancelled.

Girls’ Hockey

The fantastic all-weather hockey pitches at Countesswells lived up to their name on Saturday morning as the girls’ matches against St Margaret’s went ahead despite the persistent rain. Unfortunately the weather resulted in the pitches at the site of our other matches vs Albyn around Aberdeen unplayable. There were wins for the 1st XI, S2A, S1A/B mixed team and the P7s, and a loss for S3A. Great passing was a theme across these matches and thanks go to the spectators who braved the unpleasant weather to come and support our teams.

Boys’ Hockey

Two teams made the journey down to High School of Dundee on Saturday. The 1st XI gave a very dominant and convincing performance to come away with a great win. With goals coming from a variety of sources and players, the attacking play of the boys was a definite highlight and positive of the game. They were in control of the match from the first whistle to the last and thoroughly deserved the win.

The U15 boys gave a hugely positive performance and a great platform to continue to develop in their draw against High School of Dundee. It was a nervous start from the boys but those nerves were settled by an ‘absolutely incredible’ goal by Freddie B on his reverse stick. An unfortunate penalty stroke in the second half allowed Dundee to equalise but the boys can be very proud of their work rate, desire and hard work.

Netball

The busy netball schedule continued again this week. On Tuesday the 1st VII were delighted with their win against Cults Academy which puts them through to the Gold section of the Scottish Cup. This was a fast paced game where RGC moved the ball around at speed and finished off with accurate shooting. Player of the match went to Hannah for her consistent passing into the circle and excellent defensive skills.

A great performance from the S1s against Woodmill High School in the Scottish Cup on Tuesday also resulted in a strong win for RGC. The squad were set conditions throughout the match to challenge each position and this kept the opposition on their toes. Player of the match went to team captain Ava for her excellent shooting accuracy.

On Thursday we had 3 matches. The first was the S2s who won against Albyn in the 2nd round of the Scottish Cup. After a slow start in the first quarter the girls stepped it up with great intercepting, passing and shooting. Player of the match went to Lucy for slowing the game down when required and her fantastic interceptions. There was a loss for the S3s against Albyn in the Scottish Cup and also a disappointing loss for the 2nd VII vs a strong Ellon Academy 1st VII in the Aberdeen League. After the match, 2nd VII team captain Frayla said her team will work hard to make sure their new warm up regime will prepare them to step onto the court at full match intensity in the future. One stand out defender in the match was Zoe who made some fantastic interceptions and marked her opponent closely which significantly reduced their scoring opportunities.

Ski Racing

Our Junior School and Senior School ski race teams had great success at the SSSA Dual Slalom Finals in Glasgow on Tuesday and Wednesday. The Junior School team were placed 5th out of the 18 Scottish schools who qualified for the finals The 4 members of the team, Bailey, Blair, Sophie and Louisa, skied very well and showed some excellent racing skills. In the Senior School event S1-3 pupils Daisy, Autumn, Seb and Michael collected a silver medal and the S1-6 Open team consisting of Milly, Tiaan, Finlay and Grant also collected a silver medal.

Basketball

The RGC basketball team won against Aboyne Academy in their first of two meetings in the Scottish Cup Grampian Division. Seth E led the team with 16 points, Douglas F chipped in with 8 and Alex D had a great game on the boards. All in all this was a true team win in which every player made solid contributions on offence, defence and rebounding.
